Last night we had a small group. Two main things happened. We continued to experiment with the open mic format where each person has about 3 minutes to share in whatever respectful way they want to that contributes to building community. You can brainstorm a problem, give a mini-lecture, ask for open conversation, share what you are currently doing, sing a song, dance, or whatever you like! Then, when we have open conversation or small groups, it is easy for people to connect.
Last night we also had two men who needed some extra help attend-and a mentor who was willing to help them. One is homeless, the other in a lot of pain--and so they got connected simultaneously as we did the open mic. Multi tasking is really important.
If people want to come to this event to talk about plans for eco-village learning center, they are most welcome to come, and we can have a separate discussion either during or after the open mic.
I am still trying to figure out the best way of helping everyone get their needs met during such a gathering. You can learn more about my vision at www.myspace.com/communitygathering
