Self Sufficient house for $50,000! Can it be true?

Is there really a way that we can build a self sustaining house which includes food, water, housing, and electricity for $50,000?

Check this out!!!!!!

Looking for feedback!

Cast Earth Structures

Hey, I have been studying the ecodomes from cal earth (see forums) but I also found this http://www.castearth.com/ which is a method of casting earth to build structures.

What do you think?

I live in El Salvador. I dont have any experinece on building of any kind.
But I have some experience with solar energy methods and practice. My brother in Hawaii is doing some adobe building.
Someone in El Salvador has the idea of bringing volunteers to share their experience on adobe, to teach the system. And then start building for rural communities, the idea is to bring Americans to help in the building process, while they share their knowledge and they get to discover different lyfestyles .

Hey Josh,

How's everything going there? Just curious of what you guys are using in your fill, rice hulls? Did you figure out the stove pipe problem, I have been trying to find out for you, no luck yet.
Great pictures, I've been enjoying them.

Hi Josh

Great photos of SD, looks really beautiful there, I can't wait for more. I will ask the instructors here at Cal Earth to see if they have any ideas to solve some of your challenges. I will be here for another 2-3 weeks, I'm gaining lots of experience and loving it here. The temp is quite nice too, average 75-80 everyday, always a nice breeze here. We just finished building a sweat dome yesterday, just putting the finishing touches on it in the next couple days. We have a big group coming here for a workshop sponsored by Drew Carey, they will be arriving early next week. We have been preparing for there arrival, building a foundation so that they can finish a full dome. Its a ton of fun here, everyone gets along great.
Thinking about you my friend.

I'm hoping to learn how to get off grid. I built a monolithic dome and this will be my second winter in it. I live in Alberta and the winters can be pretty cold. I have under slab heating and am using propane. I'm hoping to learn about wind and solar power and see if i can incorporate it in my dome.

I will start spreading the word pretty soon--there is so much going on. I am excited too! I wish I could get a quick tutorial on how to use this website most effectively
